Biography of Michael Freitag

Hello,

I suppose I'll try to tell you about me in the short but sweet method. I grew up in Palatine, IL. I attended Palatine High School, played soccer and wrestling. I was active in National Honor Society and other clubs there. I was one of two students to be the first ever in school history to receive National honors for our Art portfolio through Scholastic Art and Writing my senior year (1992).

After I graduated I attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. I started in Engineering like an idiot, passing up several art scholarships. After a year and a half of total misery I changed majors to Art Education and Fine Arts. I graduated in 1997 with a BA in Art Ed, and A Bachelor of Arts.

I have since taught in 5 different schools. I started as a sub/Soccer coach at Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox IL. Then I was an elementary art teacher (k-6), wrestling coach and track coach in Roselawn, IN (Lincoln Elementary and North Newton Middle/senior High School). I then left there after the year and moved further south to Shelbyville, IN. There I taught Middle School art to 8th Graders, as well as coaching wrestling and Girls Soccer. After 4 years there I relocated back to the burbs and taught Elementary Art again for a year and coached boys and girls soccer. After that I landed a job at Plainfield South High School as a Art teacher and soccer coach (Boys Head Coach), where I currently work.

I continue and have always done art on the side, and hope to eventually build up a strong enough portfolio to start exhibiting/selling my work in galleries and other places on a regular basis. Most of my art exhibits have been during college, or more recently in online galleries. I just haven't had the time to get to the streets and do the work I need to get into galleries.
